With graduation ceremonies right around the corner for many schools in Texas, Fort Worth ISD is thinking about giving families one last gift for their students set to walk the stage. The school district is thinking about picking up the tab for parking during graduation ceremonies at Dickies Arena. Currently parking costs $20, but a final decision is expected to be made during meetings on May 17.
Parking at graduation has become an issue for some Fort Worth parents who believe Dickies Arena should cover the $20 cost, arguing the publicly owned building should offer free parking for public school events. However, a contract with Trail Drive Management giving them exclusive authority to manage the parking lots and the rates is preventing that. That's why Superintendent Kent Scribner plans to recommend to the school board that the district cover the cost of parking during upcoming meetings.
"Upon board approval, each graduate will receive two parking passes to accommodate his or her family members," claims an email from the district. According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, the district previously offered free parking and shuttle service from Farrington Field. Hopefully they decide to pick up the cost, making graduation a little more special for everyone.
