A Frisco couple has been arrested after authorities say they posed as psychics in order to steal millions of dollars from emotional and vulnerable victims.
If they were really psychic surely they would’ve seen this coming, right?
According to the Dallas Morning News, authorities say 44-year-old Bridgette Doreen Evans, who also goes by Jolene Travis, and her partner, Vinnie John Uwanawich, 44, lured victims with promises they could cleanse curses that caused romantic or personal problems.
Between 2021 and 2024, they convinced at least three victims to give them over $2.5 million in cash, gold and jewelry.
Evans would offer “love readings,” and tell victims they were cursed but that she could communicate telepathically with angels and their loved ones.
She would victims to send money or other assets, which she said she would place on an altar to remove the curse or "karmic debt," the indictment alleges. Evans also warned victims they and their loved ones would suffer if they did not provide enough money for cleansings.
One victim sold Evans her house. Another gave her a Corvette and access to their credit cards.
In 2023, when Evans was convicted and sentenced to jail on a separate psychic fraud case in Florida, Uwanawich kept up with the scheme.
The pair are facing a variety of charges of mail and wire fraud, and if convicted could face up to 20 years in prison.
