Giraffe crushes car windshield during Granbury family's visit to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

The Fossil Rim Wildlife Center definitely offers an experience like no other in Texas.  The chance to get up close and personal with wild animals is really cool, but it can lend itself to some unfortunate mishaps.

Last week, Kari Hill of Granbury was driving through the wildlife center with her family when a giraffe stopped by to say "hello."  And everything was great, until the giraffe lost its footing.

Hill told WFAA, "We were stopped at the giraffe area when a giraffe came and stuck his head in the sunroof.  All was great until he lost his balance and fell onto my windshield."  The situation quickly became terrifying.

"[The windshield] started caving in while he was flailing, trying to get his footing back," Hill said. "We were covered in glass, and I thought it was about to turn very bad, but then the giraffe regained his footing and took off."

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center said the giraffe is doing ok, though Hill can't say the same for her car, as it had to be towed out of the wildlife center.

Hill said she was told by the park that they were not responsible for the incident due to the statement customers sign before entering, but Hill is just happy her family is safe.

"[It was] such a quick, freak accident," she said. "[I'm] glad it wasn't worse. Cars can be replaced. People can't."
