Former Rangers catcher Austin Hedges was one of the most visible figures of the team's magical World Series run last year.
His huge beard and wild expressions made him stand out on the bench, and he quickly became a fan favorite, despite his time in Arlington being relatively short.
Heck, he was even deemed the team's "Director of Morale!"
When the Rangers won the World Series, Hedges made a promise to wear bottomless chaps at the celebratory parade. Unfortunately, that promise was not fulfilled, and though we can probably point to a number of reasons why, Hedges' own mother seems to be the biggest catalyst.
On the Chris Rose Rotation podcast, Hedges revealed that his mother shot that idea down. Fast.
Hedges explained, "Mom said no.' She said, 'Austin, if you ever want to get a job again, you can't go do this.'"
Hedges also revealed that his mother had a problem with the fact that not only were the chaps bottomless, they were FRONTless as well! Maybe Mama Hedges had the right idea.
Unfortunately, the Director of Morale won't be back with the Rangers next season as Hedges signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Guardians in the offseason. Still, we will always have 2023 and the bottomless chaps to remember him.
