Back in January, the James Beard Awards announced their semifinalists for 2023 and 15 DFW chefs and restaurants were included. Now, the finalists have been announced and North Texas is still well represented. For this year’s awards, five restaurants and one chef from the metroplex were named finalists in four different categories.
On Wednesday, five DFW restaurants and chefs were honored by the James Beard Foundation as finalists for their annual awards. This year, North Texas received nominations for Outstanding Restaurant, Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Bakery and Best Chef: Texas. According to Fox 4 News, Lucia in Oak Cliff was one of five restaurants nominated in the national category for Outstanding Restaurant. It was the only Texas restaurant to make the list.
As for the other nominees, Don Artemio from Fort Worth and Restaurant Beatrice from Dallas were named in the best new restaurant category.
La Casita Bakeshop in Richardson and Kuluntu Bakery in Dallas were named finalists for Outstanding Bakery and Reyna Duong from Sandwich Hag was included on the Best Chef: Texas list. Hopefully these restaurants and chefs are able to bring home some trophies when winners are announced at a ceremony on June 5.
