With so many reboots and remakes of classic movies and television shows being made over the last few years, many have wondered if there are any original ideas left in Hollywood. Luckily, director James Gunn may have found a new take on one of the most beloved TV series of all-time. The director recently claimed writer Charlie Kaufman came up with an idea for a dark version of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and the director is definitely interested in making it.
Writer Charlie Kaufman has become known for his out-of-the-box movie ideas. Films such as ‘Being John Malkovich’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ have both confused and delighted audiences. However, James Gunn recently revealed the writer came up with another idea back in the 90s that was a little too out there for some. According to UPROXX, Kaufman “pitched a movie version of Gilligan’s Island where the islanders, starving & desperate, started killing & eating each other.”

Gunn went on to say he tried resurrecting the idea after ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ but the idea was shut down by the estate of the late Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of ‘Gilligan’s Island.’ While not everyone is a fan of remakes, this is one many fans could get behind.
