As students across North Texas prepare to head back to school, Keller ISD will be working harder to ever to keep their students more engaged in learning than ever before this year.

Keller ISD officials have voted to ban cell phones across all campuses during school hours this upcoming school year.

Dr. Tracy Johnson, Keller ISD's Superintendent, said in a statement, "This is a nationwide epidemic with our students."

According to FOX 4, cell phones will be required to be powered off and placed in a bag during school hours.  Students will not be allowed to keep their phones in their pockets or on their person.

In addition, headphones and Bluetooth devices will not be allowed on campus, either.  "It is hard for a teacher to compete with YouTube or TikTok videos," Johnson said.

Any student caught with a cell phone during school hours could be subject to disciplinary action, including detention or in-school suspension.  The district said though that during emergencies, school staff can allow children to use their phones.
