Another big game involving a team from Texas, another big bet from Houston furniture salesman Jim McIngvale, otherwise known as “Mattress Mack.”
Normally, North Texans look at Mattress Mack’s lost bets with glee as he always puts big money down on the Astros, but we’re sure a lot of folks are wishing he had won this bet.
Mattress Mack had $1 million on the line for the Texas Longhorns to defeat the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl and advance to the College Football National Championship. He told FOX Sports in an interview last week, “On Friday night, I drove to Louisiana to bet on my phone. I have an enormous passion for UT football.”
Well, we all saw how that game turned out.
According to the NY Post, a Texas win would have netted Mattress Mack $2.7 million. Mack doesn’t have the best of luck when it comes to college football. All told, he’s $10.2 million betting on the College Football Playoffs, including $6.15 million lost on Alabama to beat Georgia a year ago and an additional $3.1 million on TCU to oust Georgia.
Mack won a staggering $75 million on the Astros winning the World Series in 2022 but followed that up by losing $7.5 million on the Astros as they fell in the ALCS to the eventual World Series champions, YOUR Texas Rangers!
