When people make lists of the greatest actor of all-time, Michael Caine is a name that often appears. The actor has made a name for himself throughout the years with iconic roles in films such as ‘Zulu,’ ‘The Dark Knight,’ ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol,’ ‘The Italian Job,’ ‘Educating Rita’ and many more. Despite great success, some may not want to follow Caine’s path, as the actor recently revealed he once spent 8 years trying not to blink in order to perfect his acting technique.
Every actor has their own method to performing a role, but not many go to the lengths Michael Caine has. According to the actor, a book titled ‘Teach Yourself Film Acting’ featured an acting tip to “never blink,” leading Caine to attempt the method. “For the next eight years, I walked around trying not to blink. People around me, my mother and everybody, thought I had gone nuts,” said Caine.
Apparently Caine isn’t the only big name actor that believes in the not blinking method. According to NME, actor Anthony Hopkins once claimed the method of not blinking helped him play Hannibal Lector. With two of the biggest names in acting admitting to using this method, fans can expect to see far less blinking from actors in the future.
