Tom Petty fans got some good news this week as it was announced a new documentary about the late singer would debut at the South by Southwest film festival. The film about Petty, who passed away in 2017, will headline the event. According to the film’s description, it includes never before seen footage from Petty’s recording sessions for 1994’s ‘Wildflowers.’
The Tom Petty documentary, ‘Somewhere You Feel Free’ is directed by Mary Wharton, and will be the “centerpiece film" for SXSW’s online event in March. Moving online this year, fans will be able to experience the 28th edition of the SXSW Film Festival on web, mobile and premium TV viewing platforms. As for the Petty documentary, it is described as “an intimate view of a musical icon,” according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
Along with the Petty film, the other headliners of the event will include films about musicians Demi Lovato and Charli XCX. Many fans are looking forward to the online event, giving them a chance to see the Petty film where in previous years they would not. Hopefully this documentary gives fans something new to cherish.
