Sports fans for years have argued whether or not it's time to introduce robot officiating into the games they love.

While we may not have robot refs yet, this is certainly a step in the same direction.

While the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District's Maintenance Grounds crew maintains about 40 athletic fields weekly, the job of laying down lines on the field belongs to the machines.

Specifically, the Turf Tank robotic field painter.

Josh Minor, the Executive Director of Facilities and Construction for the school district, told NBC DFW, "I call him Hank the Tank.  It is an autonomous field striper.

"At very short notice, we can throw a field in there about 45 minutes with one person.  In the past, your striper would have a gas-powered engine on it. So, this is all battery operated, very intuitive."

Hurst-Euless-Bedford isn't the only school district to use this robot, either.  According to Turf Tank, schools in Grand Prairie, Brewer, Princeton, and The Hockaday School all use Turf Tank.
