Olamaie, a Southern fine dining restaurant in Austin, was one of the first restaurants in Texas to receive a Michelin Star after the state became eligible to receive them in 2024. It retained its star in 2025, but unfortunately the store will not last through all of 2026.
The restaurant announced that July 19 will be its last day of service. It opened in 2014.
Chef-owner Michael Fojtasek told the Austin American-Statesman, “I'm sad. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone that's come through those doors and for all the contributions.
"When you open a restaurant, you want to accomplish all these things; you want to live forever, and making it 12 years is pretty impressive.”
Fojtasek said that rising labor costs, a tough Austin market, and slow summer months are challenges Olamaie has faced as of late, and though they did receive a bump from the Michelin Star, it only lasted about eight months.
