For years, director Ridley Scott has discussed his intentions on making a ‘Gladiator’ sequel. While that project has been pushed back a few times by the 85-year-old director, it appears things are finally starting to come together on the long awaited project. According to new reports, the film has officially found its star, as actor Paul Mescal has been tabbed to play an adult version of Lucius in the film.

Paul Mescal may have just landed his biggest part yet, as the Irish actor known for roles in ‘Aftersun’ and ‘Normal People,’ was recently picked to star in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ sequel. Mescal will portray an adult version of Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s character, Marcus Aurelius Lucilla, and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus. According to Bro Bible, the film will take place years after the original.

To land the role, Mescal beat out some pretty big names including Timothee Chalamet, Miles Teller, Austin Butler, and Richard Madden. Now that the star is in place, hopefully the movie begins filming soon. After years of waiting, ‘Gladiator’ fans are closer to a sequel than ever before.
