We know how much Oktoberfest is in North Texas, but could you imagine what it's like celebrating in Fredericksburg?
This year Oktoberfest celebration in the Texas Hill Country will look a little different though, if PETA gets what they are asking for.
The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals has implored the organizers of the Oktoberfest Fredericksburgcelebration to serve a vegan menu this year.
Oktoberfest Fredericksburg event producer Debbie Farquhar Reeh received an open letter from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk asked in the letter that read:
"Please, will you add festive, hearty vegan meats to this year's Oktoberfest menu, so that those who don't eat meat for ethical, environmental, health, or religious reasons will be able to join in and have a happier celebration?
"After all, vegan foods are big in Germany these days, and here at home we have Beyond Sausage Brat Original, Field Roast Bratwurst Sausage, and Gardein Seven Grain Crispy Tenders, to name just a few appropriate foods. Of course, most beers are great vegan brews."
PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O'Brien added in an email to MySA, "Cows and pigs are smart, social beings who love their families and don't want to be ground into bratwurst any more than we would.
"PETA is calling on Oktoberfest Fredericksburg to prove that it's really one of the best by adding delicious meat-free fare that leaves animals in peace, not in pieces."
Oktoberfest Fredericksburg is being held from October 4-6.
