Afraid that the Willow Bend Mall would fall into similar fates as Valley View and Collin Creek Mall, the Plano Planning & Zoning Commission has approved a multi-million-dollar redevelopment plan for Willow Bend mall.
The plans were presented by Dallas-based real estate firm Centennial, who want to develop Willow Bend into a similar property as the highly regarded Austin property, The Domain.
Centennial founder and CEO Steven Levin wants to shrink the current enclosed retail space at Willow Bend to make room for outdoor shopping on a streetscape, 965 apartments, an 18-story hotel, and a seven-story office building, which he believes will create a tax-generating asset similar to The Domain.
Those sentiments were echoed by Whitney Livingston, president of Centennial, who told the Dallas Morning News, "Unfortunately, the malls that were built for yesteryear are simply too big and constrained by their fortress-style infrastructure to deliver to the needs and wants of consumers today."
Michael Platt, Centennial's executive vice president, said that much of 2024 would be used securing building permits and demolition planning with hopes to start construction on the property as early as possible by 2025.
