There has been a rise in ATM thefts across the entire state of Texas; the last one was stolen just five days ago from a gas station in Hewitt.

There have also been ATM thefts in Temple, Waco, and Killeen, and now authorities believe these are all connected to a larger operation based out of DFW.

Chief of Hewitt Police John McGrath says the thefts are all similar in nature: Trucks pull up to a convenience store, a few men break the front window, tie a rope around the ATM and pull it out into the bed of the truck. They then take the truck to separate location where they break-in to the ATM, load everything into a separate car and flee the scene.

McGrath told Six News that the department is "working with other agencies in this investigation."
