A PhD student at SMU has lost a $2 million book deal after accusations that he used AI to write portions of it.
Jerry Falade has denied the accusations over his crime novel, Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body, writing in a social media statement, “I’ll talk when the time is right. Definitely innocent!!!”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Falade’s agent book agent Marc Gerald told the magazine The Bookseller that Falade gave conflicting answers about his use of AI after concerns were raised by another editor halfway through the book submission process.
Falade did admit that he used AI for research purposes, but not “for writing the book itself.”
Despite the controversy, Falade is moving forward with his next book stating, “Trust me, when this book is finally released, the bidding war we saw on Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body will be child’s play compared to this.”
