Not many toys have remained in circulation for as long as the Rubik’s Cube has. Without any innovation or changes to the seemingly impossible puzzle, kids of many generations have struggled to figure out how to solve the colorful cube. Now, the Rubik’s Cube is being taken to another level, as a movie and a game show based on the classic toy are currently in development.
While not much is known about the two separate projects, Hyde Park Entertainment Group is working with Endeavor Content on a feature film about the iconic toy, and with Glassman Media on a game show based on the Rubik’s Cube. “I’ve had a personal and nostalgic connection to the Rubik’s Cube from my early days in India. I am thrilled to partner with Endeavor Content and Rubik’s/Smiley and look forward to creating a wonderful and complex Rubik’s universe,” said Hyde Park Entertainment’s Ashok Amritraj.
The Rubik’s Cube, which was developed in 1974 by Erno Rubik, has sold over 450 million units worldwide. Since 2018, “speedcubers” have helped increase the popularity of the game by competing at the Rubik's Cube World Championship Finals. Now, a movie and television show will help introduce the game to even more people.
