Getting a truck driver to honk their horn is a core memory for kids. These days though if you're passing a truck on a road in North Texas, there's a good chance there will be nobody actually inside the truck at all.
Self-driving 18 wheelers are currently being tested on freeways in North Texas and though they are occupied for safety reasons, soon there won't be anyone in the cab.
This is the goal of Aurora Innovation, who calls these self-driving, autonomous big rigs the "future of trucking." Ossa Fisher, president of Aurora, told CBS News, "I believe the world was born ready for a truck like this."
The trucks are outfitted with 25 cameras and sensors that are calibrated every time they head out on the roads, along with four powerful antennas, and can drive for 22 hours straight, double the time humans are legally allowed to.
