Luana Alonso is a swimmer who was selected by Paraguay to represent the country at the Olympics in Paris.
A student athlete at SMU, Alonso was recently kicked out of the Olympic Village after she allegedly created an "inappropriate" environment.”
Alonso did not advance to the semifinals in her race, the 100m, and after declaring that she would be retiring from the sport following the Olympics was allegedly seen traveling around Paris, “taking in the sites of City of Lights” which included a trip to Disneyland Paris, according to a report per NBC New York.
This did not sit well with the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, which resulted in the committee’s mission head Larissa Schaerer requesting Alonso to immediately leave the Olympic Village saying that her presence "had created an inappropriate environment for the Paraguayan team.”
In an expired story posted to her Instagram, Alonso denied the allegations.
She wrote in the post, “I just wanted to clarify that I was never removed or expelled from anywhere, stop spreading false information. I don't want to give any statement, but neither am I going to let lies affect me.”
