Schools are always looking for new ways to get students interested in learning. Now, the grocery store chain Sprouts has decided to help out by offering DFW schools the chance to win a free garden. Community members are invited to nominate their local school and the winner will receive a garden to help students learn about growing vegetables, healthy diets and food preparation.
Sprouts recently announced a new program where they are offering to build a free garden for a school in each of the 24 cities they are located. With multiple locations throughout DFW, schools all around the metroplex have a chance at winning the garden. According to Dallas Culture Map, the deadline to apply is April 26, and is open to any parents, teachers, faculty, neighbors or adults with a personal connection to their nominee.
Criteria for each applicant includes: familiarity with the school’s current practices, merit; Why does the school deserve a garden, a commitment to outdoor learning and identification of a caretaker who can oversee and maintain the garden. Winners will be announced in July with gardens expected to be built in September. Hopefully this helps get a few kids interested in gardening.
