For years, there have been discussions about a bullet train that would allow passengers to get from DFW to Houston in 90 minutes. It seems every few years talks of the project get brought back up, only for it to eventually hit a road block. Now, talks have been reignited once again as Amtrak recently announced a partnership with Texas Central Partners to determine the viability of the 240-mile rail line.
On Wednesday, Amtrak and Texas Central Partners released a joint statement announcing they will work together to see if a 205 mile per hour bullet train from Dallas to Houston would be possible. According to Fox 4 News, the Japanese bullet train technology would allow passengers to travel between the two major cities on a 240 mile rail line in 90 minutes. “We are proud to bring our experience to evaluate this potential project and explore opportunities with Texas Central so the state can meet its full transportation needs,” said Amtrak Senior Vice President of High-Speed Rail Development Programs Andy Byford.
Of course, these plans are still facing an uphill battle as acquiring land and starting construction has been difficult for previous projects. However, Amtrak and Texas Central Partners have already submitted applications for grants and others programs to help pay for the study and design of the rail line. Maybe this will be the project that finally works.
