Seven Castain is a senior forward on the TCU women’s soccer team and yes, she does acknowledge that her name is a bit unusual.

She told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in an interview, “I was never made fun of for it; adults will ask me, ‘What’s you name?’ and when I say it, they say, ‘Not your age, your name.’”

For years, her parents have denied the rumor that she was named after a quote from George Costanza of Seinfeld, who once declared in an episode: “I defy you to come up with a better name than ‘Seven.’”

Seven herself has never even seen an episode of Seinfeld, though her parents did intend to name her after another popular ‘90s sitcom.

Seven says, “They were supposed to name me ‘Emma,’” after the daughter of Ross and Rachel from Friends.  When Seven’s parents, David and Heidi, learned that the name “Emma” was in the Top 100 names when their baby was born, the name was vetoed.

Instead, “Seven” was chosen as their daughter’s name because David and Heidi had a “very hard time” conceiving, and when they finally were able to, they felt “Lucky,” which the number seven is considered in many ideologies.

Despite the unusual circumstances and unconventional name, Seven wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I love it.  I wouldn’t want any other name,” she said.  “it’s very fitting for me.”
