It was supposed to be a celebration of a momentous celestial occurrence. The Texas Eclipse Festival began on Friday with the intention of wrapping up during the total solar eclipse yesterday.
Unfortunately, just hours before totality, the event was canceled due to severe weather.
However, the event itself has drawn comparisons to the embarrassing Fyre Fest for its lack of organization and broken promises to attendees.
One person alleged that artists scheduled to perform at the event were being “turned away,” and the ones that stay for the multi-day event didn’t have places to sleep.” There were also criticisms over the lack of signage between the camp sites and the festival which meant that “people are getting lost on a two-mile hike”.
According to a post on Reddit, the “the bare necessities that a festival should have for the safety of their attendees were not met.” The user also claimed that the festival was over capacity, was poorly lit, and had a lack of medical staff.
Another user called out the outrageous prices for food, writing, “$66 for pizza!? $30 for tots? F*** that.”
According to The Independent, organizers cited of high winds, tornadic activity, large hail, and thunderstorms, including during the eclipse, for the event’s cancellation.
