For years, movies and television shows have shown the world the many different ways people attempt to sneak items into a prison. Some may bake contraband into a cake, while others try to sneak it in on their person or through a prison guard. However, in real life apparently there is a new way to try to get forbidden items to prisoners using modern technology. A Texas man was indicted recently after attempting to sneak contraband into prison using a drone.

On Tuesday, authorities announced a man had been indicted for trying to use a drone to drop a bag of forbidden items to inmates at a federal prison. According to NBC DFW, the man was attempting to deliver wire cutters, tools, money, cellphones, cellphone chargers, and tobacco to prisoners. The man has now been charged with two counts of unlawfully flying an aircraft, with each count punishable by up to three years in prison.

The federal prison where this occurred is located south of Beaumont. While this is the first federal case involving smuggling attempts by drones in Texas, it is the third overall in the United States. Hopefully the man has a different method for getting items if he goes to prison.
