The holiday season is a great time to give back to those in need, as people look to make sure everyone enjoys this time of year. For one Texas man, his attempt at helping out a family in need ended up leading to an impromptu food drive. After turning to social media looking for a family to help, many others quickly joined in on the man's cause donating a number of necessities.
Gus Cantu of Austin, Texas, along with his girlfriend, recently posted on Nextdoor.com looking for a family in need they could help in their neighborhood.
"Every year, we've wanted to help out a family, and we realized this was the year to do it," said Cantu. Luckily, a number of families reached out asking for help, and before he knew it a number of other people were joining in to help out Cantu's cause.
In total, 25 volunteers helped out 11 families to make sure they had items needed to get through the holiday season. "Families were super appreciative," Cantu said. This is one example of social media actually making the world a better place.
