Time and time again, Texas does something to prove the slogan “everything’s bigger in Texas” is absolutely true. This time it’s with their population, as the U.S. Census Bureau just announced the amount of people in Texas has hit an all-time high. According to the Vintage 2022 national and state population estimates, Texas has officially hit a population of 30 million.

Back in 2021, when the Texas population was 29,558,864, many believed 2022 would be the hit Texas finally hit the 30 million people milestone. Thanks to a population growth of 1.6% in 2022, Texas easily hit the mark, as the official population now sits at 30,029,572. According to Dallas Culture Map, the 1.6% population growth was the fourth largest in the United States for 2022.

With more and more people moving to Texas, the growth is expected to continue in the future. “A rebound in net international migration, coupled with the largest year-over-year increase in total births since 2007, is behind this increase,” said Kristie Wilder, a demographer in the Population Division at the Census Bureau. For now, Texas is the second most populous state, but if these trends continue, Texas could easily one day be number one.
