Severe weather season in Texas is synonymous with severe hail season, so there’s no surprise that for the 11th straight year, Texas ranked as the “hail damage capital of the US.”
And per the Insurance Information Institute, it wasn’t particularly close.
According to the Insurance Information Institute, there were 902 hail events in Texas with major damage in 2025. Illinois, which finished in second place, had 375 major hail events.
Missouri (369), Mississippi (315), and Alabama (253) rounded out the top five.
