There are some big changes coming to the Texas landscape and for the first time in a while, it won’t be office buildings or new housing. After state officials announced they wanted to expand the number of state parks in Texas earlier this year, their plan has finally been revealed. Over the next 12 to 15 years, six new state parks will be added in Texas, with the first opening in North Texas later this year.

In a recent commemorative issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine, an update was provided on the state’s plan to add six news state parks in the coming years. As the state looks to expand on outdoors public space, these parks should provide plenty of outdoor fun for Texas for years to come. “Given the stability of the sporting goods sales tax, it’s time to strategically plan how we’re going to provide that opportunity using these properties,” said Director of Texas State Parks Rodney Franklin.

According to Houston Chronicle, the six state parks apart of this plan include Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, Dan A. Hughes Unit of Devils River State Natural Area, Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area, Powderhorn State Park, Chinati Mountains State Natural Area and The Davis Hill State Natural Area. Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is located 75 miles west of Fort Worth. Soon, Texas will have even more places for outdoor activities.
