Tina Kahlig has been a ranch real estate broker in Texas for decades, so she's seen her fair share of animals, but she says she's seen "nothing like this."
She wrote Chron in an email, "We have a lot of speculation but have not determined what it is."
Last month, Kahlig noticed a mysterious creature walking around her backyard. She couldn't identify what it was and took a picture of it. Nobody else could definitively say what it was either.
She said it appeared larger than a coyote and more like the size of a mountain lion, though its ears did not resemble one. Neighbors on NextDoor have speculated the animal to be anything from a coyote, to the legendary folk creature the Chupacabra!
A zoologist contacted by Kahlig said the animal is likely a New Guinea singing dog, an extremely rare and ancient lineage of dog found on the island of New Guinea in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, north of Australia.
Still, Kahlig says the identity of the creature remains definitively unknown. She said, "It is very interesting yet still a mystery. We actually have no idea and have only seen it one time."
