Repairs were in order at University Little League's Double Eagle Park along Old Hemphill Road in Fort Worth before first pitch Wednesday night.
Early yesterday morning, a trio of thieves broke into the closed concession stand, causing about $3,000 worth of damages. The thieves made out ok though; they were able to snag $30 and a handful of snacks before making their getaway.
Really worth all the trouble, especially considering that security cameras inside the stand allowed the police to be informed immediately, which led to a pursuit of the thieves that crossed three counties.
Officer Buddy Calzado of the Fort Worth Police Department told NBC DFW that "as the officers were pursuing them, they were throwing [the snacks] out the window."
The chase finally ended in Kaufman County, about an hour away from the ballpark, thankfully without incident.
The cost to repair the metal concession stand window would be about $2,500, though the cost to replace other equipment, like the cash registers, could cost a couple thousand more.
Josh Robertson, a volunteer board member of University Little League in Fort Worth, said this situation is a "curve-ball, but not the end of the game."
"We're going to ... persevere through it and work through it, like we always do," he said.
