The start of the college football season is less than one month away, and football fans all over the country are gearing up for kickoff. For fans of the University of North Texas Mean Green, not only will they be going into the season with high expectations, but they will also be walking into a newly named stadium on game day. It was recently announced that the UNT football stadium will now be called DATCU Stadium.

On Monday, the UNT athletic department announced a deal with the Denton Area Teachers Credit Union for their stadium’s naming rights. According to Fox 4 News, the stadium was previously known as Apogee Stadium, which had been the name since 2011. The school will hold a special “DATCU Day” before the team takes on California September 2.

"The opportunity to add a partner that has such deep ties and association with UNT and the city of Denton could not be better as we launch into this new era of athletics in the American Athletic Conference," said UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley. With a new stadium name, the team may be ready to reach new heights.
