Finding the perfect Christmas present for someone can be a difficult task, but apparently instead of going with the hottest trends, it appears many looked towards the past for their gift. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, more vinyl records were sold last week than in the last 30 years. It was vinyl's best-selling week since the RIAA began tracking data in 1991.
Vinyl records have officially made a comeback, as for years collecting vinyl was a hobby for some, but now seems to be back in the mainstream. Already vinyl was trending upwards in 2021, as RIAA claimed vinyl generated $467 million in the United States by mid-2021, which was up from $207 million by that point in 2020. However, sales took another massive leap with 2.11 million vinyl records sold last week.
According to UPROXX, it was the largest vinyl selling week since RIAA began tracking data in 1991. Helping the numbers were sales for the best-selling vinyl record of 2021, Adele's '30.' Soon enough the world will be discussing the CD revolution.
