For years, fans of ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ have wondered when the beloved series would hop onboard the reboot bandwagon. While Will Smith long shut down rumors of a revival, back in 2019 a trailer for a dramatic version of the show went viral, changing the actor’s mind. Now two years later, the new reboot series seems to be moving forward, as they have announced who will be playing the lead, and the announcement was made by Will Smith himself.
While not much is known still about the upcoming ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reboot, Peacock recently shared video of Will Smith informing actor Jabari Banks that he landed the lead role in ‘Bel-Air.’ As seen in the video Banks is blown away not only by the news, but hearing it from the show’s original star. While the show will take a more serious turn, Banks still managed to get a laugh out of Smith, telling him the story of how his dad convinced him to go for the role.
According to UPROXX, the new show will be a modern day, “dramatic analogue” of Fresh Prince that follows “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.” Hopefully more news of the Fresh Prince reboot will be revealed soon.
