Although a cause of death has not been disclosed, the band updated fans with a statement on social media posted on Friday night (12/15) writing, "Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin." Burgess was 77 years old.

Born in Sydney, Australia on November 16, 1946, Burgess started his musical career with Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Famers the Masters Apprentices from 1968 to 1972 before joining up with Angus and Malcolm Young, singer Dave Evans and bassist Larry Van Kriedt in AC/DC from November 1973 to February 1974.

Colin appeared on AC/DC's first single, "Can I Sit Next To You Girl," however, just a year later, Burgess was ousted from the band after being accused of being intoxicated on stage, and even though he claimed to have had his drink spiked, the writing was on the wall and he was asked to leave. "Can I Sit Next To You Girl" was later re-recorded with three-time drummer Phil Rudd behind the kit.
