O'Fallon, Mo. (KMOX) - No slow dancing with your sweetheart at senior prom this year in Missouri's Fort Zumwalt School District because of COVID-19.
District Superintendent Dr. Bernard DuBray says the decision was made after consultation with the health department.
"No dancing where you're holding your partner to subject them possibly to any type of virus that might be in the atmosphere," DuBray said.
Last year's proms in the district were cancelled altogether because of the pandemic. This year, there will be music and there's talk of line dancing.
DuBray says some parents have thanked him for at least having some kind of prom, but others think it's time to let normal prom resume.
"You know there's been other school districts that have just cancelled it out right, "DuBray said, "We didn't want to do that. So we said, if we're gonna have it, let's at least handle it the way we've handled the school year with our protocols of masks and social distancing."
Here's a list of rules the school plans to enforce:

Ticket sales are down dramatically for the three proms--at Fort Zumwalt High North, East and West.
Asked if he can remember his own senior prom and the girl he slow danced with, DuBray said yes, he can, and said her name. He says he's sorry this year's seniors can't have that memory.
"You deal with the hand that's dealt you, and we've been dealt the pandemic, " DuBray said.
