If your travels take you through Arlington this weekend, you will want to avoid Interstate 30 at all costs.
Starting at 7:00 p.m. Friday night, I-30 will be closed in both directions between Hwy 360 and the Bush Turnpike.

"We will be demolishing two structures that go over I-30," says Val Lopez with TxDOT; "and in the interest of traffic safety, we just can't do that over live traffic."
While eastbound traffic will simply be diverted onto the ramps, the westbound detour is much more extensive.
"The westbound detour is quite significant," says Lopez. "It goes down the 161 frontage road through Division St. and back up Collins St."

This is the last weekend that I-30 will have a complete closure that will last the entire weekend.
"This is part of the I-30/360 project, where we're taking an old turnpike configuration and reconfiguring it with modern direct connect ramps," Lopez says.
Like all other weekends, this weekend was strategically chosen.
"We do not have a Cowboys game this weekend," says Lopez. "I won't say that wasn't a factor."
The Rangers are also out of town this weekend, making it a quiet weekend throughout the Arlington Entertainment District.
I-30 is expected to reopen at 5:00 a.m. Monday.
