LISTEN NOW: The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan | Sharon Osbourne
As a mom, manager, and business maven, Sharon Osbourne has proven herself as the formidable force behind her husband Ozzy Osbourne's stellar career. Although she admits, over the years some mistakes have certainly been made. One of those moments, she says, happened when she advised her husband against auditioning for a role in Disney’s hugely successful Pirates of Caribbean franchise starring Johnny Depp.
During their lengthy chat, The Smashing Pumpkins frontman applauded Sharon's incredible accomplishments as a manager and her ability to see, before it became standard procedure, that Ozzy could break past the boundaries of music.
Surprising Corgan by admitting to a rare miscalculation, Sharon asks, “Do you want to know the biggest mistake I ever made with Ozzy? He got offered to go and read for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ and I’ve never said this to anyone… I said no.”
Looking back with obvious regret, Sharon adds, “Wouldn’t he have been perfect? Johnny [Depp] wanted Keith [Richards] to be a pirate, remember?”
As fans of the iconic flicks will surely recall, The Rolling Stones guitarist played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow’s father, Captain Edward Teague, in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Additionally, The Beatles’ Paul McCartney played the role of Jack Sparrow’s Uncle Jack in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Whether or not Ozzy would have been offered either of those, or another unknown role, is anyone’s guess -- but we can all agree Osbourne would have fit right in with that motley crew.
