The loss of former costar Matthew Perry has hit Zac Efron hard.
Efron told Variety there hasn’t been a day since Perry’s passing he hasn’t thought about him.
"I hold the time we shared together really dear. I’ve been thinking about him a lot, every day,” he told the publication. He was in a unique position for me in my career and in my life. His passing is affecting me a lot.”
The two worked together in the 2009 movie “17 Again.” Perry played a struggling dad who gets magically transformed into his younger self, played by Efron.
“It can be incredibly lonely, being an actor,” Efron said. “It’s very important to reach out to friends and foster relationships where you can talk and share stories. I wish in the past couple of years that I had an opportunity to do that with Matthew.”
Shortly after Perry’s death, Efron was asked about Perry previously saying he’d want the actor to play him in a movie about his life.
“I heard that, and it’s a huge honor,” he said at the time. “Matthew is, you know, the best guy in the world. I had the best time of my life working with him.”
