US Representative Chris Deluzio is co-sponsoring a bill to make bulletproof vests more affordable for local police.

While Congressman Deluzio is very passionate about getting $60 million dollars annually for bulletproof vests he also tells KDKA Radio that the assassination of Charlie Kirk has forced everyone to figure out how to disagree without resorting to political violence.

"We can't have anybody intimidated because they're opening their mouth to make an argument. I think that's why the threat here is so real, and why I'm glad you're seeing so many leaders across the spectrum say 'enough is enough'. We're not accepting this, we're not happy with this. We're condemning this stuff," he said.

He says it's time for civil discourse.

As of June 30th, 166 law enforcement officers have been shot nationally, 21 of them fatally.

Many of those shot were saved by bullet resistant vests.
