PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — On Feb. 2, Coraopolis Police and paramedics reported to the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Coraopolis for an unresponsive three-year-old child.
Upon their arrival, first responders found the child, Aiden Lombardi, in cardiac arrest.
Aiden was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and brought into a stable condition.
He was then taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Detectives from the Allegheny County Police launched an investigation and found that 25-year-old Tyler Mason was responsible for the aggravated assault of Aiden Lombardi.
Mason was charged with the aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
He's currently being held at the Allegheny County Jail on those charges.
But on Feb. 3, Aiden was pronounced dead at the Children's Hospital.
Pediatricians and child abuse experts determined that Aiden had suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
Earlier on Thursday, Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide.
Mason has now also been charged with criminal homicide and is still in jail, awaiting arraignment.
