A long-time employee of the iconic Fat Head's Saloon says he's devastated by Tuesday's announcement that the popular restaurant is closing.
Bill Holmes says the ongoing violence on the South Side was most likely a big factor in the owner's decision.
“Certain staff, because of what’s going on, they didn’t want to come here anymore because a lot of people come out with their children . . . their parents, you know they don’t feel comfortable,” said Holmes.
He believes the violence on the South Side in the main factor contributing to the closure.
Holmes, who's been working at Fat Heads for 33 years, tells Marty Griffin on KDKA that it broke his heart to learn it's closing down:
“I helped build that place . . . because I put a lot of sweat in there,” said Holmes. "started from the beginning to the end, I’ll be there on the last day it closes.
Holmes says they were told by management they don’t have enough people coming in to keep the business running.
Fat Heads will close on April 26.
