Florida's attorney general is accusing the NFL of racial discrimination.
The issue concerns the league’s Rooney Rule requiring teams to interview at least two minority candidates when looking for a head coach or general manager.
AG James Uthmeier says the Rooney rule violates Florida laws banning discrimination.
“We’re demanding the NFL suspend the Rooney Rule and failure to do so may result in enforcement actions against the league for race-based discrimination,” said Uthmeier.
Uthmeier is demanding the Rooney Rule be suspended by May 1.
Critics of the Rooney Rule point out there were 10 head coach openings in the NFL this year and no African-Americans were hired.
Currently, three of the 32 NFL teams have Black head coaches.
