PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) Following the death of a 78-year-old man within their walls, the Allegheny County Jail will be investigated for its growing number of fatalities.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced that a national group of experts will be carrying out the investigation.
Local leaders will be partnering with groups that specialize in improving safety conditions within correctional facilities across the nation.
Allegheny County will be working with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
The group has recommended a three pronged approach which include reviewing every death within the facility.
While all deaths within the jail are already reviewed, bringing in an outside perspective on policies and procedures.
