June is Alzheimer's awareness month and we want you to know more about a major public health issue.
More than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. It kills more people than breast and prostate cancer combined. And, during the pandemic, Alzheimer's and dementia deaths increased by 16%.
Alzheimer's is not only awful for those who have the disease, but it causes fear, confusion and anger for their caregivers.
There is no cure for Alzheimer's yet, but there are medications to slow its progression. Only more funding and research will uncover new treatments and maybe someday, a cure.
We encourage you to learn more and support the Alzheimer's Association of Pittsburgh.
The city's new team in the United Premier Soccer League will donate 50% of its profits from tickets and merchandise to the Alzheimer's Association. And there's a Walk to End Alzheimer's in October.
