Nippon Steel is sharing Monday with union workers details of its plans for the U.S. Steel's Mon Valley Works.

In a second letter to the United Steelworkers employees, Nippon's vice chairman says his company’s plans for the Mon Valley Works and other blast furnaces are quite different from what U.S. Steel has in store.

The union has criticized USS for shifting billions in investment to its complex in Arkansas.

Takahiro Mori says "the only way to prevent the... transfer of production...
to" Arkansas is for the deal with Nippon Steel to close.

In a Pittsburgh Business Times report, Mori also predicts, if the acquisition falls through, U.S. Steel is likely to close unionized plants over time.
