Pittsburgh City Council considers merger with surrounding municipalities

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Pittsburgh City Council will reportedly vote no on a proposal to annex Wilkinsburg.

A Tribune-Review report says legislation was introduced last week to deny the measure because council members don't have enough information to support annexation.

However, a bill allowing City Council to investigate mergers and annexations with neighboring municipalities was introduced yesterday.

"We have a lot of concern because were watching the east end grow and prosper, which is wonderful and were so thankful for that, but we also want to be apart of that," said Theresa Kail-Smith, President of Pittsburgh City Council, during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Wednesday.

The measure would give council the ability to gather the information it lacks on the Wilkinsburg issue.
