Governor Josh Shapiro says he's not afraid of a big fight, and is vowing to hold Norfolk Southern accountable for last month's toxic train derailment in East Palestine.
On the Big K Morning show, the governor called the company "bad actors" for not doing what was necessary to prevent the tragedy in the first place, and for not mitigating the effects of the crisis.
“We will make sure that they put Western Pennsylvania back to the condition it was in before and no one will have to worry about the air the breathe or the water they drink in the future,” said Shapiro. “We’re staying on the ground, we’ll be there, we got the backs of Pennsylvanians.”
The governor says the state will continue to monitor the air with the EPA and will share that data with the public. And they'll compel Northern Southern to pay for it.
