Thunder snow passed over Pittsburgh area overnight, part of a rapid shift from rain to snow as a cold front came through. Temperatures will remain in the 20s.

The rain froze and was covered by a small amount of snow in Pittsburgh. That prompted 2-hour delays for some districts in the area.

Power outages

High overnight winds and cold conditions brought down power lines.

About 2,000 Duquesne Light customers are still without power as of 11 a.m.

That's after about 16,000 had lost their service earlier today due to the effects of the cold weather.

Hardest hit areas include parts of the City, Carnegie and Oakdale.

First Energy has 1,000 outages in Westmoreland, 190 in Washington County along with 280 in Butler and 140 Allegheny County.

Future Forecast

There won’t be any relief weather-wise the rest of the day with high winds and temperatures in the 20s sticking around through Thursday.

There could also be some flurries or quick snow showers. AccuWeather’s Joe Lundberg tells The Big K Morning Show that with it being so cold, that could cause roads to get slick again.

There is good news for those looking for relief from the cold. Temperatures will reach 50 or so by Sunday.

Construction Delay

The weather has also forced PennDOT to delay a complete closure of the McKees Rocks Bridge that was scheduled for Thursday morning into the afternoon.
