The Pittsburgh Police department is mourning the loss of an officer who died on Tuesday due to complications from COVID-19.
The department has announced that Sergeant Timothy Warner died at Mercy Hospital with “members of his Pittsburgh Police family by his side.” He was 49.
"It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Sergeant Tim Werner. Tim has been a friend to many and a dedicated public servant for the City of Pittsburgh for many years. It's going to be extremely difficult not seeing Tim at Police Headquarters every day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will be truly missed," said Police Chief Scott Schubert.
Werner was going into his 22nd year with the Pittsburgh Police and was a graduating member of the May 15, 2000 recruit class.
Werner worked as an officer in Zones 4 and 5 and most recently was a supervisor in the property room of Police Headquarters.
Funeral arrangements will be private.
51-year old Sergant Richard Howe died on October 21 due to COVID complications and 47-year-old Brian Rowland died days after he was hospitalized in late September.
On Monday, the City of Pittsburgh issued a vaccine mandate that all city employees (including police) must be vaccinated by December 22, 2021 or face discipline or termination.
